Call for Papers: STEAM-Powered Community
(DEADLINE Extended )
STEAM-Powered Community is the theme for the 8th Annual Global Souths Conference at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, March 14-16, 2024, sponsored by the English Graduate Student Association. The Global Souths Conference is a three-day interdisciplinary conference about concepts including the south, southern, and the north/south binary, around the world and in the U.S., past, present, and future. This year’s theme examines connections between the STEM disciplines and the Arts and Humanities. We welcome contributions from all disciplines that foreground instances in which the arts – liberal, creative, or performative – have benefitted from scientific disciplines and vice versa. Participants may discuss how interconnections between science and art help elucidate our understanding of global souths.
In connection to the theme STEAM-Powered Community, we are particularly interested in proposals that cover any of the following topics:
- Artificial intelligence and the humanities
- Cognitive development and learning
- Diaspora and transnationalism
- Digital Humanities
- Environment and sustainability
- Folklore and gothic
- Gender and queer studies
- History of science and art
- Human development and social justice
- Language and identity development
- Language, culture, and meaning
- Literature and technology
- Neo-colonialism and decolonization
- Pedagogy and globalization
- Race, ethnicity, and class
- Regionalism and regional identity
- Regional humanities and demographics
- Urban development and gentrification
- War, revolution, migration
We encourage complete panel submissions, as well as individual paper abstracts. The deadline for proposals is February 2, 2024. Please note that the Call for Papers deadline has been extended to 15 February 2024! Please go to the Individual & Panel Abstracts for more details.
